The Contract and Commercial Law Bill (the Bill) was introduced into Parliament on 19 May 2016. The Bill aims to revise and modernise eleven statutes. However, it has been certified as not changing the effect of the law. Rather, it aims to make it easier to understand. The Bill was formed pursuant to the Legislation Act 2012, which provides for formulation of revision Bills to clarify, but not change, the law.

The Bill is to re-enact the Carriage of Goods Act 1979, the Contracts (Privity) Act 1982, the Contractual Mistakes Act 1977, the Contractual Remedies Act 1979, the Electronic Transactions Act 2002, the Frustrated Contracts Act 1944, the Illegal Contracts Act 1970, much of the Mercantile Law Act 1908, the Minors’ Contracts Act 1969, the Sale of Goods Act 1908, and the Sale of Goods (United Nations Conventions) Act 1994.
