Bruce Hughes

Bruce joined the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Team in 2022, having completed a Masters degree in Business Administration at the University of Otago. Prior to undertaking his Masters, Bruce worked for several years in a large national law firm in South Africa.

Bruce has also previously worked in event management, publishing, operations and as a public and private sector consultant. His experience working in a diverse array of sectors, in combination with his MBA, enables him to gain a broader understanding of client’s businesses so that he can provide grounded and practical advice. 

Bruce assists clients across the whole spectrum of corporate and commercial matters, including:

• buying, selling and investing in businesses;

• business structure and governance advice (advising on a drafting joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, and general constitutional documentation);

• advising charitable trusts and incorporated societies in respect of their governance arrangements;

• regulatory compliance (including in respect of commerce and fair trading, financial markets, and privacy); and

• all aspects of retirement villages, including advising on the development, registration and ongoing regulatory compliance of villages.
